A verdict is expected overnight for a Canadian journalist on trial in Egypt on widely-denounced terror charges.
As Mohamed Fahmy waits to hear his fate in a Cairo court, he says he’s hoping for the best but bracing for the worst.
Fahmy was the Cairo bureau chief for Qatar-based satellite news broadcaster Al Jazeera English when he and two colleagues were arrested in December, 2013.
They were charged with a slew of offences, including supporting the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, a banned organization affiliated with ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi.
The trio maintained their innocence, but were convicted and sentenced to prison terms.
A successful appeal resulted in a retrial.

Cameras rolling as Japanese mountainside comes crashing down in epic landslide

The unbelievable moment an entire side of a mountain came crashing down in an epic landslide has been recorded by Japanese broadcaster NTV.
Cameras were rolling Tuesday in Kagoshima Prefecture as heavy rain caused the third landslide in a month and forced residents of the small, nearby town of Tarumizu to run for their lives.
Footage also showed a river of mud surge its way through town but no injuries or fatalities were reported.
The epic imagery is similar to what a Global News crew recorded at Johnsons Landing in 2012. Former Global National reporter Francis Silvaggio had been assigned to cover a story about a landslide the previous day when the forest around him came crashing down.

Sometimes the old saying a picture is worth a thousand words isn’t a long, overused cliche.

Earlier this week, a local branch of the pet rescue society, Angels Among Us, posted a picture of the two girls hugging each other.
Writing from the point of view of the dogs, the group called for help.
“We’re so scared in here. The people working in the shelters see how scared we are but just told each other that today is our deadline. We have to have someone rescue us or we’ll be ‘next’. Keira is black and not a ‘real boxer’, just a mix. She’s so brave and tells me it will be okay no matter what happens. She tells me to be brave too but I don’t know if I can be.”
The group stated that if the pups weren’t saved by the end of the day, they would be put down.http://i-cdn.embed.ly/1/display?key=fd92ebbc52fc43fb98f69e50e7893c13&url=https%3A%2F%2Fscontent.xx.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-xtf1%2Fv%2Ft1.0-9%2Fs720x720%2F11745938_10153200133257912_3084399530130311610_n.jpg%3Foh%3Dbdb31a08632915d4d087142a5c3a75b9%26oe%3D56190B3A
Luckily for the pair, the post spread quickly across social media and after only two hours, Kala and Keira were picked up by an unnamed vet.
Even after widespread press coverage and television appearances, the pals are still looking for a permanent home having been placed in foster care.
If they don’t mind the transatlantic flight, our couch/warm spot on the kitchen floor/bed is free…

Kenyan president unmoved by Obama's gay rights plea

President Barack Obama has nudged African nations to treat gays and lesbians equally under the law, a position that remains unpopular through much of the continent.
Mr Obama's Kenyan counterpart responded by calling the matter a "non-issue" for his country.

Mr Obama tackled the sensitive issue on his first full day in Kenya, the country of his father's birth.
He drew on his own background as an African-American in the US, saying he is "painfully aware of the history when people are treated differently under the law."
"That's the path whereby freedoms begin to erode and bad things happen," Mr Obama added during a joint news conference with Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta.
"When a government gets in the habit of treating people differently, those habits can spread."
Mr Kenyatta was unmoved, saying gay rights "is not really an issue on the foremost mind of Kenyans. And that is a fact."
A number of Kenyan politicians and religious leaders had warned Mr Obama in outspoken terms that any overtures on gay rights would not be welcomed in Kenya, where gay sex is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
Mr Obama's visit to Kenya - the first by a sitting US president - has been long sought by this East African nation where he is widely considered a local son.
Acknowledging that some Kenyans have been frustrated that it took him until the seventh year of his presidency to visit, Mr Obama joked that he didn't want the rest of Africa to think he was "playing favourites".
Still, he noted the US had concerns about violence that erupted in Kenya after its 2007 election. Mr Kenyatta faced charges related to that violence in the International Criminal Court, though those charges were later dropped.

Breaking News: Hulk Hogan Removed From Everything WWE Related, Pulled From Tough Enough, Hogan Posts Cryptic Reaction

An unusual story is developing late Thursday night, as WWE has seemingly completely disassociated itself from Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan.

Hogan has been pulled from WWE.com completely, he is no longer listed as a judge on Tough Enough, and all of his merchandise links have been removed from WWE’s online shop.
The only Hogan related link remaining on WWE’s website is him being advertised for the Australian tour in which he is scheduled to be the General Manager. However, when you click the link it takes you to a page saying “You are not authorized to access this page.”
In what might be a reaction to all this, Hogan Tweeted the following:
“In the storm I release control,God and his Universe will sail me where he wants me to be,one love. HH”
